A LAW firm has sued for­mer MMD Lufwanyama Mem­ber of Par­lia­ment An­nie Mun­shya Chungu for al­legedly fail­ing to set­tle over K100, 000 le­gal fees owned to the firm dur­ing an elec­tion pe­ti­tion in which she was be­ing chal­lenged af­ter elec­tion to the of­fice of MP in 2011.

In a state­ment of claim filed in the Lusaka High Court, Cen­tral Cham­bers claimed that in about Septem­ber 2011, Ms Mun­shya in­structed the firm to rep­re­sent her in a mat­ter in­volv­ing an elec­tion pe­ti­tion.

Cen­tral Cham­bers in­di­cated that upon re­ceiv­ing the said in­struc­tion from Ms Mun­shya who is also a busi­ness woman, the par­ties pro­ceeded to agree on the fee scale to be ap­plied and that she was rep­re­sented un­til the mat­ter was dis­posed of in the High Court and Supreme Court.

Cen­tral Cham­bers in­di­cated that Ms Mun­shya was billed K400, 000. 00 that K70, 000. 00 was to­wards the High Court pro­ceed­ings and K30, 000. 00 to­wards the Supreme Court ap­peal and costs in the High Court and Supreme Courts as or­dered by the Supreme Court in its judge­ment of 2013, for work done on her be­half amount­ing to K350, 000.00.

The firm fur­ther claimed that the two par­ties con­se­quently, en­tered into an agree­ment as to the pay­ment of the said fees but that Ms Mun­shya duly started ser­vic­ing her debt un­til Novem­ber when she start­ing to de­fault pay­ment to date.

The firm has also asked the court for any other re­lief that it may deem fit.
