Chihili wins support from 9 districts
By JACKSON MAPAPAYI ABOUT 9 out of the 10 districts, including constituency executive committees have resolved to back the current North Western Province Patriotic Front chairperson Emmanuel Chihili in the forthcoming intra-party elections.
Meanwhile, elections for all ward executive committees have started today in all wards throughout the province.
The exercise is expected to be completed in three days’ time.
Speaking in separate interviews, the committees said that they would not want to risk PF by putting wrong people in the party's top leadership.
Chavuma PF chairperson Lawrence Kamalata said there was no need to vote for a new chairperson when the incumbent was performing well.
And Manyinga district chairperson Danny Chingimbu said his committee had seen no reason why they should vote for another provincial chairperson when the incumbent had managed to unite the party.
“Yes, we can change other positions and bring in new people but not the chairmanship. That's what we have resolved as Manyinga district,” he said.
Kabompo district chairperson Bristin Nyamachaka said Mr Chihili was an experienced politician and knows how to handle political matters.
Mufumbwe district chairperson Peter Kalundwe said Mr Chihili has potential to grow the party ahead of the 2021 general elections given the full support by all structures in the province hence their decision to rally behind him.
Other districts that have endorsed him include Mwinilunga, Ikelenge, Zambezi, Kalumbila and Mushindamo.
Four people are vying for the provincial top job among them provincial vice youth chairperson Jackson Kungo, provincial information and publicity secretary Peter Kapamba, a local businessman Mr Kekema and Mr Chihili.
