Daily Nation Newspaper - - NORTH WESTERN NEWS -

MARKETEERS at Kyawama market in Kyawama compound have expressed concern over the uncollected garbage by Solwezi Municipal council.

Speaking in separate interviews with the Daily Nation, marketeers said the garbage at the market was a health hazard to the community. Josephine Mulundumina said the garbage was a health threat to marketeers and consumers in the market especially with the onset of the rains.

‘’It is also an environmental hazard because this is where all garbage and waste material from different selling points around the market is dumped, that’s why it is producing a bad smell,” Ms Mulundumina said.

She added that as a market they had forwarded numerous complaints to the local authority concerning the garbage but nothing had been done.

And Marian Kauseni wondered why the local authority was failing to frequently collect garbage despite paying levies every day. She said was unfair for the council to keep collecting levy from Kyawama market without providing proper service.Solwezi council assistant council public relations manager Esther Chirwa could not be reached for a comment by press time.
