Bring dialogue to rescue Kambwili - NDC
THE National Democratic Congress (NDC) has pleaded that the proposed dialogue among political parties be tabled so that its consultant, Chishimba Kambwili can be saved from persecution.
NDC spokesperson, Eric Chanda claimed that as things stood the country was not ready for dialogue.
He said that if President Edgar Lungu was really serious about the proposed dialogue, he should call for it to be tabled as soon as possible.
Mr Chanda said that there had been too much lip service about the subject without tangible steps being taken, while antagonism among political players was taking centre stage. He reiterated that there could not be real dialogue when opposition leaders were being harassed by the police and other public institutions.
Mr Chanda called on the President to stop the ‘holistic and antagonist’ approach, they claimed he had taken to silence opposition and bring dialogue to the table.
“Let comrade Edgar Lungu stop using the police, the AntiCorruption Commission (ACC) and other quasi institution to persecute our consultant, then the world will know that he is serious with dialogue. But as things stand today on Kambwili, dialogue is simply lip service and talk show,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Chanda has distanced himself from a statement circulating on social media purporting that NDC had stopped Mr Hichilema from visiting the incarcerated Mr Kambwili.
He said that contrary to the statement, the NDC was overwhelmed Mr Hichilema’s solidarity and gesture.
