Mulongoti’s Malawi roots traced
A TEAM of village headmen from Petauke has claimed that People’s People leader, Mike Mulongoti hails from Rumphi district in Malawi near Katumbi border close to Muyombe in Zambia. This comes amid claims by Mr Mulongoti questioning the nationality of President Edgar Lungu and accusing him of being a foreigner. Team leader, Ledger Tembo (headman Chenjelani) revealed that in fact the People’s Party leader was related to late Mr Mike J. Mulongoti a broadcaster who used to work for Radio RSA in Johannesburg, South Africa. Mr Tembo explained that Mr Mulongoti’s relative hailed from Malawi, which put the opposition party leader’s nationality in question. The Headman, who is part of a delegation that had decided to sue Mr Mulongoti for allegedly defaming President Lungu wondered how the opposition leader could hail from Zambia when all his relatives were Malawians. “This Mr Mike Mlongoti who used to work for Radio RSA in Johannesburg, is related to Mr Mike Mulongoti here. Mr Mlongoti, the relative to our Mulongoti comes from Rumphi district Traditional Authority at Katumbi border district close to Muyombe in Zambia,” he said. A delegation comprising President Lungu’s family members and seven headmen, arrived in Lusaka on Saturday from Petauke to demand an apology from Mr Mulongoti over his claims that the Head of State was a foreigner. On Sunday they gave Mr Mulongoti a 24- hour ultimatum to apologise or prove the Head of state was a foreigner which he (Mulongoti) has not done prompting the team to take legal action against him.
