DC de­nies re­ports of work­ers’ protest

RE­PORTS that Zam­bian work­ers em­ployed by a French com­pany re­ha­bil­i­tat­ing Kariba Dam planned a protest if their con­tracts are not re­newed are false, says Si­avonga Dis­trict Com­mis­sioner Love­more Kanyama. Mr Kanyama said claims that em­ploy­ees work­ing for Razel –Bec a French con­struc­tion com­pany con­tracted to re­ha­bil­i­tate the Kariba dam in­tended to protest if their con­tracts were not re­newed were false. He thanked Razel -Bec Com­pany for hav­ing em­ployed more lo­cal peo­ple as well as some in­di­vid­u­als out­side Si­avonga for skilled po­si­tions. He com­mended Razel-Bec for be­ing the only com­pany in the dis­trict that was pay­ing its work force well com­pared to lo­cal com­pa­nies that were yet to im­ple­ment the newly an­nounced gov­ern­ment min­i­mum wage.
