CHIEF Chikanta of Kalomo has maintained that his people will not leave the Kalomo Hills forestry Reserve where they have lived all their lives.

The traditional leader said the eviction letters issued by the Forestry Department does not carry any water and did not have the blessings of the local people. “We are not going anywhere. We won’t allow it and the whole thing is not working because the deadline is today but that won’t work,” he said. Government gave over 2, 000 people of Dundumwezi in Kalomo up to September 30, 2018 to vacate their land or face the full force of the law. But Chief Chikanta told Millennium Radio that government should first consider how many voters will be displaced and also the number of government infrastructure that will be affected. Meanwhile, the government has advised that the eviction was on hold as the decision was being reviewed.

We are not going anywhere. We won’t allow it and the whole thing is not working because the deadline is today but that won’t work,”— Chief Chikanta
