Woman in court for elec­toral mal­prac­tice

A 38-YEAR-OLD busi­ness woman of Lusaka has ap­peared in the Lusaka Mag­is­trates’ court for al­legedly vot­ing twice in the 2018 Lusaka may­oral elec­tions. In this case Monica Mu­tale of un­known house num­ber in John Laing is charged with im­per­son­ation con­trary to sec­tion 82 (a) and 124 (a) of the Elec­toral Process Act No. 35 of 2016 of the laws of Zambia. It is al­leged that Mu­tale on July 26, 2018 in Lusaka hav­ing voted once in the may­oral elec­tion at John Laing Pri­mary School ap­plied for a bal­lot pa­per to vote in the same elec­tion again. Mu­tale pleaded not guilty to the charge be­fore Lusaka Mag­is­trate Austin Mu­bita. The mat­ter has been ad­journed to Novem­ber 20, 2018 for trial.
