Chi­totela coun­sels for­eign con­trac­tors

FOR­EIGN con­trac­tors should start sourc­ing lo­cal con­tents when putting up in­fra­struc­tures to make it easy for Zam­bians to take charge of the main­te­nance once the projects are com­pleted, says Hous­ing and In­fra­struc­ture De­vel­op­ment min­is­ter Ron­ald Chi­totela. Mr Chi­totela said there was need for for­eign con­trac­tors to work with lo­cal con­trac­tors at any given project and source ma­te­ri­als lo­cally to en­sure easy main­te­nance of the struc­tures once com­pleted. He was speak­ing dur­ing a tour of con­struc­tion works at LXsaNa’s Maina 6oNo mil­i­tary hospi­tal in Lusaka yes­ter­day, Mr Chi­totela said Zam­bians must not be en­gaged af­ter the con­struc­tion has reached an ad­vanced stage but must be part and par­cel of the whole con­struc­tion process so that they fully ap­pre­ci­ated the whole project. He said Govern­ment was happy with compliance lev­els of con­trac­tors re­gard­ing the 20 per­cent sub-con­tract­ing law of lo­cal con­trac­tors.
