Chitotela counsels foreign contractors
FOREIGN contractors should start sourcing local contents when putting up infrastructures to make it easy for Zambians to take charge of the maintenance once the projects are completed, says Housing and Infrastructure Development minister Ronald Chitotela. Mr Chitotela said there was need for foreign contractors to work with local contractors at any given project and source materials locally to ensure easy maintenance of the structures once completed. He was speaking during a tour of construction works at LXsaNa’s Maina 6oNo military hospital in Lusaka yesterday, Mr Chitotela said Zambians must not be engaged after the construction has reached an advanced stage but must be part and parcel of the whole construction process so that they fully appreciated the whole project. He said Government was happy with compliance levels of contractors regarding the 20 percent sub-contracting law of local contractors.
