State told to invest more in nutrition
CARE International in Zambia has called on the government to invest more in nutrition-sensitive planning and budgeting to ensure that issues of nutrition are addressed from a multi-sectoral perspective. CARE International country director Geraldine Zwack said government should take a step forward and increase its share of investment in the fight against malnutrition across the country. Speaking at the launch of the East and Southern Africa nutrition budget commitment report in Lusaka yesterday, Ms Zwack said Government should designate at least one per cent of the national budget to nutrition in the next three fiscal years in a campaign which the organisation is calling 3 by 3. And Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya said the Patriotic Front government was committed to fight malnutrition as demonstrated by the increased allocation of K1million in the 2019 national budget to the National Food and Nutrition Commission.
