Kansanshi exports gold
KANSANSHI Mine in Solwezi District yesterday exported 230 kilograms of gold worth 8.3 million dollars to South Africa. This is part of the once a month exports that the mine has been conducting for some time. And Ministry of Mines Director Mine Safety Gideon Ndalama who was part of the delegation that took part in the pre-export inspection says government has been participating in the gold exports in a bid to promote transparency. He says a government constituted team with representation from the Ministry of Mines, Zambia Revenue Authority -ZRA- and other government agencies conduct pre-export inspections at the mine every month before exports. Mr. Ndalama adds that ZRA always ensures that appropriate seals are placed before the gold bars are taken out of the mine. He says government’s participation in the export process is important for computation of mineral royalty which is a cardinal revenue stream for the country. The gold was escorted to Solwezi airport amid tight armed security by Zambia Police and other private security agencies contracted by the mine.
