- By NOEL IYOMBWA

CHIEF Chikanta of the Tonga speaking people of Southern Province says his chiefdom has not been affected by hunger.

The traditional leader said that unlike some other parts of the province, his chiefdom was food secured.

He said that farmers still have enough maize stocks from last farming season and that now they were busy preparing for the coming season.

“Fortunately despite the dry spells, most farmers managed to have something. People in my chiefdom still have enough maize from the previous season and now they are busy preparing for the coming season.

Chief Chikanta attributed this to the good agriculture practice by his subjects.

The traditional leader advised farmers throughout the country to always practice good agriculture methods and prepare adequately to avoid starvation.

He also advised farmers to plant the right seed according to their region.

The traditional leader observed that bad and untimely agriculture was one of the contributions of starvation in the country.

“Farmers should prepare adequately, early and most importantly plant the right seed and apply the right farming methods such conservation farming.
