MTE Problem solves for mines – Macnamara

- By James Nyirenda

Mining and Technical Exhibitions (MTE) operations manager Andrew Macnamara has said the mining expo is imperative as it brings together various suppliers of the mining industry.

He said this year's event has attracted about 40 suppliers who have different products and services in engineering, safety, mining, instrumentation and security.

Speaking to ZBT news at this year's one-day mining and technical expo held at Nkana Cricket Club in Kitwe, Macnamara stated that it is extremely important to the mining sector as they are being exposed to new technology and improving on their efficiency.

He said the exhibitions have already been held in all the countries in Southern region and here in Zambia about K300,000 has been spent on all logistics, and more than 200,000 visitors specifically the mining companies have managed to come through the stands.

“This is not applicable to someone from the streets, it is highly technical. It is an annual event. We have done it here for ten years and will keep improving on exhibitions and bring the most relevant suppliers for the mines. They tell us the problem, we provide solution,” he said.

Macnamara further said copper prices at the moment are favorable and MTE will continue to keep strong relationships with the mines through creating a strong link with procurement officers, engineers and managers.

He said a team of technocrats came to Zambia from South Africa in February to talk to the mines management about the event which has received a good response from local exhibitors and price for the stand was K10,000.
