Rid Byo of pirate taxis

Chronicle (Zimbabwe) - - National News -

EDITOR — This letter is mainly addressed to the Officer Commanding ZRP Bulawayo Province.

There is a growing tendency by pirate taxi operators both Hondas and kombis to use vehicles that have no number plates. These cars criss-cross the CBD everyday and go through roadblocks manned by police officers.

If there is anyone in doubt observe Hondas along 8th Avenue and some kombis that pick up and offload passengers opposite Chicken Inn near Pick and Pay (Hyper). These vehicles have plied their trade for several months and their numbers keep on increasing.

What is happening? We are forced to conclude that these vehicles are owned by the ‘untouchables’ within the police force or big guys in the political high echelons.

This recklessness and lawlessness within the ZRP and vehicle owners should be brought to an end without any delay. It is an embarrassment to our police force to be seen to BE condoning corruption openly at the expense of the law and precious human life.

The laws of the land must be applied uniformly to all citizens. I rest my case.

Sword of Peace, Bulawayo.
