‘Thief’s’ wife caught in stolen clothes

A MAN from Bu­l­awayo, who al­legedly stole bi­cy­cles and clothes from his neigh­bours, was ar­rested after po­lice found his wife wear­ing some of the stolen clothes.

A court heard the man stole two bi­cy­cles at a house in Nku­lumane suburb and clothes at an­other.

An­dreas Khanye (25) pleaded not guilty to un­law­ful en­try, theft and be­ing found in pos­ses­sion of stolen prop­erty.

Western Com­mon­age Mag­is­trate Miss Tancy Dube re­manded him in cus­tody to to­mor­row, Au­gust 1 and Au­gust 2 when he will be tried sep­a­rately for the charges.

Pros­e­cut­ing, Ms Ma­gret Takawira said on June 22 Khanye stole two moun­tain bi­cy­cles from his neigh­bour.

She said he stole clothes and a wash­ing bas­ket from the same neigh­bour­hood.

“Po­lice of­fi­cers were given a tip off. The bi­cy­cles were found at ac­cused per­son’s house,” said Ms Takawira.

She added, “On July 14, ac­cused per­son broke into Love­ness Ny­athi’s house where he stole clothes that were in a wash­ing bas­ket in the bath­room and also took some that were on the wash­ing line. Upon in­ves­ti­ga­tions the ac­cused per­son’s wife was found wear­ing some of the stolen clothes.”

Khanye will ap­pear in court for trial to­mor­row for be­ing found in pos­ses­sion of the stolen clothes.

On Au­gust 1 he will ap­pear for theft of bi­cy­cles and on Au­gust 2 for un­law­ful en­try into Ny­athi’s house.

Khanye de­faulted court on July 6 where he was sup­posed to at­tend trial for bi­cy­cle theft.
