Joyous Celebration gears for International market
THEY have been invited by pastor TD Jakes to record their 21st album at The Potter’s House Church in Dallas, US on December 3. The pastor broke the news to an excited Potter’s House congregation last Sunday. He said: “We’re up to something, planning a very special event. Joyous Celebration is well-known in South Africa.
‘‘To give you some sort of concept, their music moves over there as much as Beyonce’s.
“They’re great singers, they can sing their faces off – and they’re going to be joining the Potter’s House Choir for a live recording!”
Lindelani Mkhize, one of the founders of the group, said they were excited to take the group to the world.
“All I can say is that Joyous is big. But now it’s getting even bigger. Recording at TD Jakes’ church is unbelievable and everyone is excited,” Lindelani said.
“We’ll take some fans with us but they’ll know all about the travelling packages soon.”
Joyous Celebration has been operating for the past 20 years led by Mkhize, Jabu Hlongwane and Mthunzi Namba. The group has sold millions of albums throughout Southern Africa.
Its changing line-up of performers has launched the careers of numerous gospel stars including Ntokozo Mbambo, Nqubeko Mbatha and Mahalia Buchanan.
But before jetting off to the US, Joyous will perform at the Durban ICC today, Vista Arena in Bloemfontein on August 27 and Meropa Casino in Polokwane on September 10. – DailySun
