Gweru Polytech­nic em­braces Zim-As­set

GWERU Polytech­nic, a top ter­tiary in­sti­tu­tion in the Mid­lands Prov­ince, has fully em­braced the coun­try’s eco­nomic blue­print, Zim-As­set by en­sur­ing that cour­ses of­fered have a strong bias on in­dus­trial de­vel­op­ment which ul­ti­mately cul­mi­nates in so­cio-eco­nomic em­pow­er­ment.

The in­sti­tu­tion of­fers Tech­ni­cal and Vo­ca­tional Ed­u­ca­tion. The Min­istry of Higher and Ter­tiary Ed­u­ca­tion, Sci­ence and Tech­nol­ogy De­vel­op­ment’s thrust cen­tres on Sci­ence, Tech­nol­ogy, En­gi­neer­ing and Math­e­mat­ics (STEM).

“As such, cour­ses of­fered by Gweru Polytech­nic are tai­lored to be STEM com­pli­ant and in­evitably pro­vide a plat­form for de­vel­op­ment. Over the re­cent years the in­sti­tu­tion has also wit­nessed an un­prece­dented en­rol­ment growth in the Tech­ni­cal Teacher Ed­u­ca­tion Pro­gramme which pro­motes growth of tech­ni­cal skills in Se­condary Schools. Sub­se­quently the im­parted tech­ni­cal skills en­able en­tre­pre­neur­ial skills de­vel­op­ment among the youth thus eco­nomic growth,” read a state­ment from the Gweru-based col­lege.

Gweru Polytech­nic will be ex­hibit­ing at this year’s edi­tion of the Mid­lands Show which starts to­day.

The show will be held un­der the theme: “En­hanc­ing Eco­nomic Growth in a Dy­namic En­vi­ron­ment”.

The col­lege’s En­gi­neer­ing Di­vi­sion has a range of re­cent in­no­va­tions in the Au­to­mo­tive, Elec­tri­cal and Me­chan­i­cal de­part­ments which in­clude the So­lar Pow­ered In­cu­ba­tor and the trea­dle wa­ter pump. The Cos­me­tol­ogy Sec­tion will be show­cas­ing ex­otic and fab­u­lous man­i­cures, pedi­cures, fa­cial mas­sages and hair dos. The Cloth­ing Sec­tion also has a range of unique mod­ern and eth­nic wear on dis­play. Gweru Polytech­nic’s Tourism and Hos­pi­tal­ity Man­age­ment Sec­tion is show­cas­ing an as­sort­ment of dishes. The sys­tem is user friendly as some driv­ers for­get to dip lights when pass­ing other ve­hi­cles at night thus re­duc­ing the risks of ac­ci­dents. The Di­vi­sion was es­tab­lished to ful­fil the Polytech­nic’s man­date to pass on ped­a­gog­i­cal tech­niques to tech­ni­cally qual­i­fied per­son­nel to be­come teach­ers and lec­tur­ers.

The Di­vi­sion is made up of two De­part­ments namely; The Depart­ment of Ed­u­ca­tion and Train­ing The Depart­ment of Strate­gic Stud­ies The Depart­ment of­fers the fol­low­ing pro­grammes;

Univer­sity of Zimbabwe full time Tech­ni­cal Teacher Train­ing In­no­va­tions in the Depart­ment The Di­vi­sion to­gether with the Depart­ment of Elec­tri­cal En­gi­neer­ing have pi­o­neered a new sub­ject, Do­mes­tic Ap­pli­ances Ser­vic­ing and Re­pair in the se­condary school cur­ric­ula.
