BULAWAYO, Friday, August 2, 1991 — Ex-Highlanders kingpin Peter Ndlovu scored the winning goal in his debut match for English First Division soccer club Coventry City on Sunday.
According to Highlanders executive committee member Ilam Elkaim, Ndlovu’s crucial goal in a pre-season friendly match away to Fourth Division Aldershot FC capped a fine performance which has impressed the club’s coaching department. Coventry won the match 2-1. “I spoke to Coventry secretary Graham Hover who said that Peter has impressed manager Terry Butcher, and they anticipate he will be in the starting line-up when the new English season starts in about two weeks’ time,” said Elkaim yesterday.
Elkaim said he was told by Hover that Coventry had fielded its full strength team on Sunday.
Ndlovu, who moved to Coventry for an undisclosed sum two weeks ago, left with the team on Monday for a three-match tour of Scotland.
The manageress of a youth hostel where Ndlovu and a number of his Coventry team-mates are staying, Maria Fletcher, said in a telephone interview yesterday that the Zimbabwean was ‘’doing fine’’.
