Nyemba dominates Heroes Darts tourney
NATIONAL darts grandmaster David Nyemba shattered records at the Heroes Darts Tournament held in Gweru during the Heroes’ holidays as he won the closed national pairs, national president’s singles and national closed singles.
Nyemba, who also guided Mashonaland West to first position in the men’s category, scored 180 points, the highest in a darts game, a record 17 times.
In the national closed pairs, Nyemba paired with his son Kudzanayi to beat Simon Mujuru and Bekezela Khumalo also of Mashonaland West while Salio Gunda and Caleb Sigauke of Manicaland came third.
He went on to win the national president’s singles beating Peter Mulukula of Mashonaland East before shrugging off the challenge of Bulawayo’s Mgcini Nkala in the national closed singles.
Manicaland came second while Bulawayo were the second runners up in the team events.
Hosts, Midlands, dominated the women team events where national team player Tabeth Zhoya was one of the leading beacons managing to upstage Harare in a closely contested affair. Mashonaland Central were a distant third. Harare had earlier dominated in the individual female contests with Christabel Marumba and Svodai Nyika getting medals.
Marumba had earlier came first in the national president’s singles followed by Winster Mutinhiri of Mashonaland Central while Nyika came third.
The Zimbabwe Darts Association of Zimbabwe president Meynard Moyo was pleased with the level of competition at the tournament.
“I am pleased with the way the athletes exhibited here. It was a good warm up for the Zone six games in Namibia later this month. Also the upcoming players showed their bravery to challenge the big shots and gave them a good run for their money,” said Moyo.
