Chronicle (Zimbabwe) - - Opinion/national News - Tanaka Mrewa

A 21-YEAR-OLD woman from Bulawayo has been arrested for breaking into her neighbour’s house through a window, stealing cash, shoes and a bottle of cool drink.

A neighbour who saw her sneaking out through the window carrying two pairs of tennis shoes, one pair of women sandals and a bottle of cool drink identified her, a court heard.

Moraisha Dube yesterday pleaded guilty to a theft charge when she appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Miss Tancy Dube. She was remanded in custody to August 17. Dube apologised and asked the court to allow her to return the money and shoes.

Miss Dube told her that she should have taken back the things before she had been taken to court.

“If you send me to jail then I won’t return the money, I will only take back the shoes that I took,” said Dube.

Prosecuting, Ms Magret Takawira said Mr Simbarashe Sibanda returned home around 9:30PM and discovered that his dustbin contents had been emptied and the dustbin placed below his bedroom window.

“When he went inside his house he discovered that two pairs of his shoes, one pair of his wife’s sandals and $200 were missing,” said Ms Takawira.“His neighbour told him that he had seen accused climbing out of the window carrying two pairs of men’s shoes and one pair of women shoes.”

She said the neighbours were able to identify her by her name because they live in the same neighbourhood — @tannytkay.
