ZimPraise squares off with SA gospel mu­sic greats in Gwanda

IT’S the big­gest Chris­tian gospel mu­sic show ever and it’s free!

Top South African gospel singers will again lead a cast of sea­soned Chris­tian mu­si­cians in one of the coun­try’s big­gest gospel jam­borees at Pe­land­aba Sta­dium in the min­ing town of Gwanda on Fri­day next week.

Now in its sec­ond year run­ning, the two-day gospel ex­trav­a­ganza is set to re­call on stage award win­ning star Re­becca Ma­lope, Andile kaMa­jola, Lu­sanda Spir­i­tual Group, Tshep­iso Mo­taung, Dumi Mkok­stad and the soul­ful Bethusile Mcinga.

Her­alded gospel cru­saders ZimPraise will also be in line to per­form, lead­ing Zim­babwe’s select artistes in the mould of Knowl­edge Nki­wane, Tho­lakele from Plumtree and Gwanda’s cel­e­brated muso Ju­dith Moyo.

Fol­low­ing an im­pres­sive dis­play at last year’s gig, the con­cert has at­tracted play­ers in the tourism in­dus­try — ZTA who have an­nounced that they will sup­port the show.

The show’s spokesper­son Rev­erend Sipho Mizha said their aim this year is de­rived from the Bib­li­cal verse Psalm 95 v 6.

“This is our sec­ond show and we prom­ise that it’ll be bet­ter than last year’s. The theme is taken from Psalm 95 v 6 which talks about the need for peo­ple to bow down to our Maker,” said Mizha.

Ju­dith Moyo, who does not hide her soft spot for South Africa mu­sic, said she was grate­ful for the op­por­tu­nity to per­form along­side her long-time in­spi­ra­tion Lu­sanda and some of South Africa’s mu­si­cians.

South Africa-based Gwanda-born busi­ness­man Jus­tice Maphosa came up with the noble ini­tia­tive to put the usu­ally sleepy town of Gwanda on the world stage. He is on record as say­ing that the aim of the show is to bow down to God and help bless his home­town.

The busi­ness­man, who has had rough ex­pe­ri­ences, re­flected on them say­ing: “I’ve been kid­napped and hi­jacked, but God has pro­tected me. It’s time to thank and hon­our him for that.”
