ZimPraise squares off with SA gospel music greats in Gwanda
IT’S the biggest Christian gospel music show ever and it’s free!
Top South African gospel singers will again lead a cast of seasoned Christian musicians in one of the country’s biggest gospel jamborees at Pelandaba Stadium in the mining town of Gwanda on Friday next week.
Now in its second year running, the two-day gospel extravaganza is set to recall on stage award winning star Rebecca Malope, Andile kaMajola, Lusanda Spiritual Group, Tshepiso Motaung, Dumi Mkokstad and the soulful Bethusile Mcinga.
Heralded gospel crusaders ZimPraise will also be in line to perform, leading Zimbabwe’s select artistes in the mould of Knowledge Nkiwane, Tholakele from Plumtree and Gwanda’s celebrated muso Judith Moyo.
Following an impressive display at last year’s gig, the concert has attracted players in the tourism industry — ZTA who have announced that they will support the show.
The show’s spokesperson Reverend Sipho Mizha said their aim this year is derived from the Biblical verse Psalm 95 v 6.
“This is our second show and we promise that it’ll be better than last year’s. The theme is taken from Psalm 95 v 6 which talks about the need for people to bow down to our Maker,” said Mizha.

Legends Sports Diner (Khumalo) DJ Vulcan will from today host a “Retro Motown style weekend” with Shosholoza Dance group. to come and be blessed. This is the time to worship. The show is for the rich and poor. To our local artistes, this is a platform to market your works.”
Judith Moyo, who does not hide her soft spot for South Africa music, said she was grateful for the opportunity to perform alongside her long-time inspiration Lusanda and some of South Africa’s musicians.
South Africa-based Gwanda-born businessman Justice Maphosa came up with the noble initiative to put the usually sleepy town of Gwanda on the world stage. He is on record as saying that the aim of the show is to bow down to God and help bless his hometown.

“God is going to manifest in that place, I can feel it. We believe we should pray so that God can bless Gwanda and the country as a whole. It’s not a dating show. It’s a show to praise and worship God,” said Maphosa.
The businessman, who has had rough experiences, reflected on them saying: “I’ve been kidnapped and hijacked, but God has protected me. It’s time to thank and honour him for that.”
