Football legends elected into Zifa committee
FOOTBALL legends and respected coaches Sunday Chidzambwa, Rahman Gumbo and Moses Chunga have been appointed into the Zifa High Performance Committee that will be chaired by the association’s vice-president Omega Sibanda. Chidzambwa will deputise Sibanda. Other members of the committee include Masimba Chihowa, Innocent Chogugudza and Tawurayi Mangwiro in his capacity as Zifa technical director.
“The committee will be responsible for assessing coaches and recommending them for national duties. They will also work closely with national team coaches where they will offer technical advice, but not interfering with the selection (process),” said Sibanda.
Zifa also appointed members of 11 committees in a statement released by its communications manager Xolisani Gwesela yesterday that sees retired referees Gladmore Muzambi and one of the best referees to emerge from Bulawayo Thabani Mnkantjo being drafted into the referees’ committee chaired by Zifa president Philip Chiyangwa.
The referees’ committee also includes retired whistlemen Kainos Mavhuna and Japhet Mufiri as well as Whawha FC chairperson and senior prisons officer Musa Ntonga.
Caf instructor and veteran coach Gibson Homela will deputise the Zifa vice-president in the technical and development committee that also has Wisdom Simba, Tumediso Ndlovu, Bheki Nyoni, former Mighty Warriors coach Rosemary Mugadza, former Zifa technical director Nelson Matongorere and Mangwiro.
