Heath Streak Academy selects SA tour reps

EIGHT west­ern sub­urbs based crick­eters have been se­lected to join the Old Mu­tual spon­sored Heath Streak Academy side that will tour South Africa later this year.

The academy’s Un­der-13 and 14 teams are sched­uled to travel to South Africa in the first week of De­cem­ber to play games in Boks­burg, Jo­han­nes­burg.

Five play­ers, seam bowler Unathi Banda, wick­et­keeper-bats­man Mu­nashe Chimu­soro and all-rounders Mthobeki Ndlovu, Mveli Gumbo and Eu­gene Kondo, will join the academy’s Un­der-13 side, while the trio of Allen Mapholisa, Lionel Mutepfa and Brian Nkomo make their way into the Un­der-14s.

For­mer Zim­babwe captain Heath Streak said the eight as­pir­ing crick­eters from the west­ern sub­urbs will train with the academy team at the Heath Streak Multi-Sports Academy sta­tioned at McDon­ald Club, along Fourth Av­enue ex­ten­sion are all­rounders. in Bu­l­awayo.

He said the academy’s coaches Boxie Mx­olisi Dube and Sean Joseph did the se­lec­tion process with the help of Mata­bele­land Tuskers Cricket Fran­chise’s as­sis­tant coach Pol­lock Mub­hobho.

“We’re grate­ful to our cor­po­rate spon­sor Old Mu­tual for their sup­port that has made it pos­si­ble for these young­sters to get op­por­tu­ni­ties to be part of the squad that will tour South Africa.
