For­mer ZC board mem­ber God­frey Maunze dies

FOR­MER Zim­babwe Cricket (ZC) board mem­ber Charles God­frey Maunze has died. He was 70.

The veteran ed­u­ca­tion­ist and cricket ad­min­is­tra­tor passed away on Sun­day just after ar­riv­ing at Parireny­atwa Hospi­tal in Harare where he had been taken for an X-ray.

Maunze was a for­mer pres­i­dent of the Na­tional As­so­ci­a­tion of Sec­ondary School Heads and first served as a mem­ber of ZC’s in­terim board in 2006 be­fore be­ing elected in 2007. He served on the board un­til his re­tire­ment on health grounds in 2013.

He will be re­mem­bered as a great teacher, won­der­ful sports ad­min­is­tra­tor and a gen­er­ous man.

“The Zim­babwe Cricket board, management and staff would like to pass our heart­felt con­do­lences to Mrs Maunze and the fam­ily for the loss of their beloved hus­band, fa­ther and grand­fa­ther.

They are all in our thoughts and we pray that they find strength and courage to get through this dif­fi­cult time,” ZC said in a state­ment. Maunze is sur­vived by his wife, two sons, a daugh­ter and five grand­chil­dren.

Mourn­ers are gath­ered at 14 Gel­con Av­enue, Green­dale, Harare and burial ar­range­ments will be an­nounced in due course.
