VP Mnan­gagwa’s el­der brother dies

VICE Pres­i­dent Em­mer­son Mnan­gagwa’s el­der brother Mr Philip Mnan­gagwa (84) has died.

Fam­ily spokesper­son Mr Pa­trick Mnan­gagwa said Mr Mnan­gagwa died on Tues­day af­ter a long ill­ness at his home in Shu­rugwi.

“The Mnan­gagwa fam­ily wishes to an­nounce the death of Mr Philip Mnan­gagwa who had be­come the sec­ond el­dest boy in the larger Mnan­gagwa fam­ily. Philip was born on Au­gust 23, 1932, in Zvisha­vane and passed away on the same day (Au­gust 23) in 2016 (at 84) af­ter a long ill­ness,” he said.

“Philip was po­lit­i­cally ac­tive in sup­port­ing the lib­er­a­tion strug­gle while he was a teacher in Zim­babwe as well as in Zam­bia. He re­mained ac­tive un­til he be­came ill.

‘‘He was re­set­tled dur­ing the land re­form pro­gramme at Mavhu-Mashava area of Shu­rugwi just af­ter Gwen­horo Dam from Gweru.”

Mr Mnan­gagwa is sur­vived by wife Mar­gret, seven chil­dren — four sons and three daugh­ters, 15 grand­chil­dren and two great grand­chil­dren.

Mourn­ers are gath­ered at Plot num­ber 50 MavhuMashava re­set­tle­ment area in Shu­rugwi.

He is ex­pected to be buried to­mor­row (Fri­day) at 10AM at his plot.
