Math­ema sur­vives hor­ror crash

MATA­BELE­LAND North Provin­cial Af­fairs Min­is­ter and Zanu-PF Polit­buro mem­ber Cde Cain Math­ema was on Satur­day af­ter­noon in­volved in an ac­ci­dent along the Bu­l­awayo-Tsholot­sho Road.

Min­is­ter Math­ema es­caped with mi­nor bruises on his hands but the ve­hi­cle he was driv­ing was a write-off.

The ac­ci­dent is re­ported to have hap­pened 10km be­fore Nya­mandlovu as the min­is­ter was on his way to Bu­l­awayo.

Wit­nesses told our Harare Bureau that the min­is­ter lost con­trol of his ve­hi­cle which later over­turned.

“He lost con­trol of the ve­hi­cle and it swerved out of the road onto the other side,” said a wit­ness who pre­ferred anonymity.

“When he tried to get back onto the road, he swerved onto the left side be­fore over­turn­ing.

“He how­ever es­caped with bruises, mostly on his hands but re­fused to be taken to hospi­tal in­sist­ing that he was fine.”

Min­is­ter Math­ema was re­port­edly trav­el­ling alone.

Mata­bele­land North Act­ing Provin­cial po­lice spokesper­son Sergeant Na­mati­rai Mashona said she did not have de­tails of the ac­ci­dent.

“At the mo­ment, we are work­ing from the Harare Agri­cul­tural Show, so I do not have the de­tails to that ac­ci­dent as of now hence you will have to get it from rep­re­sen­ta­tives at the sta­tion in Nya­mandlovu,” she said.
