Man at­tacks friend with ma­chete over bad joke

A 56-YEAR-OLD man has ap­peared in court for al­legedly at­tack­ing his friend with a ma­chete fol­low­ing a mis­un­der­stand­ing trig­gered by a bad joke.

Sim­b­li­sio Dzin­gai Dzokai of 10 Ar­ca­dia vil­lage in Shu­rugwi ap­peared be­fore Pro­vin­cial Mag­is­trate Mr Mor­gan Ne­madire fac­ing at­tempted mur­der charges.

Dzokai pleaded not guilty and was re­manded in cus­tody to Septem­ber 9.

Pros­e­cu­tor, Mr Kelvin Gu­vheya said on March 31 at around 8PM, Dzokai and his friend Sylvestor Nduna were on their way home from Ru­faro busi­ness cen­tre in Shu­rugwi af­ter drink­ing beer.

“The two were very drunk and were in the com­pany of Tafadzwa Chikiwa, Brian Matu­rure and Ed­more Mu­tuke. The com­plainant shared a joke which did not go well with the ac­cused,” said Mr Gu­vheya.

He said when they ar­rived in their vil­lage, Dzokai and Nduna went sep­a­rate ways.

How­ever, the ac­cused went to his home, took a ma­chete and al­legedly fol­lowed Nduna.

It is al­leged that Dzokai told Nduna that he had em­bar­rassed him ear­lier on and he wanted to teach him a les­son.

“The ac­cused struck the com­plainant twice on the head with the ma­chete be­fore Matu­rure and Chikiwa were able to re­strain him. Chikiwa snatched the ma­chete from the ac­cused’s hands. The com­plainant sus­tained deep lac­er­a­tions on the head,” said Mr Gu­vheya.

Nduna was rushed to Shu­rugwi Dis­trict Hos­pi­tal and a re­port was made to the po­lice lead­ing to the ar­rest of the ac­cused.— @wyn­nezane
