Chiredzi RDC unveils land for housing project
CHIREDZI Rural District Council (RDC) has unveiled land for 1 200 residential stands near Buffalo Range Airport.
Chiredzi RDC chief executive officer Mr Isaac Matsilele said the servicing of the stands, which has since started, was made easier following the recent acquisition of necessary equipment that includes graders and caterpillars.
He said the demand for residential stands in the Lowveld outstrips supply and council was working on applying for more land from Government for housing purposes.
“We are embarking on a very ambitious project of housing as Chiredzi RDC. We have unveiled 1 200 residential stands for low, medium and high density houses near Buffalo Range Airport,” said Mr Matsilele.
He said the housing scheme is one of the massive projects that will be undertaken by the local authority.
“The housing project which has been discussed in council for long has since started and it will be one of the major initiatives in the 2017 financial year. We are already constructing roads using the equipment we acquired recently. Council has acquired a grader, caterpillar and other road maintenance equipment at a cost of about $500 000,” Mr Matsilele said.
He said the housing scheme seeks to address Chiredzi’s housing backlog which stands at more than 3 000.
Mr Matsilele said a number of investors were making inquiries on business opportunities in the Lowveld with wildlife attracting more takers ahead of other sectors.
