SOUTHERN Region Women’s Football side Cowdray Park Queens have been docked points for fielding an ineligible player.

Cowdray Park Queens fielded Catherine Jongwe, who was not on the team card, in their game against Highlanders Royals on July 16. The match officials only noticed the anomaly in the second half when Jongwe was being substituted.

“We received a report that Cowdray Park Queens fielded an ineligible player in a match which they won 2-1 against Highlanders Royals on July 16. Such behaviour is unacceptable in the world of football because it paints a bad image of our league,” said Southern Region Women’s League chairperson Takundwa Chimundiya.

“Any team which might want to do a similar stance should think twice because we won’t take such issues lightly.”

Chimundiya said Cowdray Park had been summoned for a hearing but did not show up.
