For­mer lo­cal drama ac­tor Gear­box dies

FOR­MER lo­cal drama Kukhulwa Kokuphela Nh­lanhla Lucky “Gear­box” Sibanda has died. He was 57. Sibanda died at Mater Dei Hos­pi­tal in Bu­l­awayo on Tues­day night af­ter suf­fer­ing from can­cer for three years.

Fam­ily spokesper­son Nqaba Sibanda, who is Gear­box’s younger brother, said they were nat­u­rally dev­as­tated by the news of his death.

“It’s a dif­fi­cult time for us as a fam­ily. He has left me ac­tor alone. Af­ter the death of my fa­ther in 2010, he was now my fa­ther. We lost a good man and a fa­ther fig­ure,” said Sibanda.

“He had been suf­fer­ing from can­cer for the past three years and un­for­tu­nately lost the bat­tle on Tues­day at 11PM.”

On fu­neral ar­range­ments, Sibanda said: “We haven’t made any, we shall do so and have a po­si­tion for peo­ple in due course”.

Sibanda leaves be­hind a wife, six chil­dren and six grand­chil­dren.

Mourn­ers are gath­ered at Num­ber 9, Bar­rett Av­enue, Sun­ny­side, Bu­l­awayo.
