Chronicle (Zimbabwe) - - Sports - Sikhumbuzo Moyo Senior Sports Reporter

HOCKEY Association of Zimbabwe (Haz) president Humphrey Chigwedere will bid farewell to the organisation at its elective annual general meeting at Chisipite High School in Harare on Saturday.

Chigwedere is not seeking re-election after nominations for the posts were released yesterday. Grant Campbell is the only nominee for the Haz top post.

“One of the main items on the agenda is the election of a new executive committee, which will run the affairs of the association for the next two years in terms of the Haz constitution. All the posts are being contested for,” reads a communiqué from Haz.

Sarah Bennett and Gavin Stephens are seeking re-election as secretary and treasurer respectively.

Virginia Ross, Prosper Machuve (Mashonaland Central Hockey Board), Maxwell Makuvise, Prince Mwale (Harare Hockey Board and current) and Kalpesh Parshotam (Bulawayo/ Matebeleland Hockey Board) have been nominated for the post of executive committee members.

In terms of the Haz constitution, nominations have to be submitted at least seven days before the AGM and nominations are done by member associations and outgoing executive committee members.

The process of verification of these nominations will be done before the annual general meeting just to ensure transparency and good governance are adhered to.

During the same weekend, Haz will host its premier club competition, the Haz Cup.

They will also hold an awards ceremony where the team of the year, administrator of the year, junior sportswoman of the year, junior sportsman of the year, sportswoman of the year, sportsman of the year, technical official of the year as well as journalist of the year will be honoured.

The new executive will be immediately seized with preparing the Zimbabwe Under-21 Ladies side for the upcoming Hockey World Cup set for Santiago, Chile, from November 24 to December 5. — @skhumoyo2000
