Armed robbers shoot three, steal $18 000
THREE injivas have been arrested for armed robbery after they allegedly shot and injured three people in two separate incidents and got away with $18 000.
Ernest Maregedze (28) from Gokwe, Patrick Zindoga Mutondo (26) and Ngonidzashe Matyora (30), both from Zvishavane, appeared before Gweru Magistrate Musaiona Shortgame facing armed robbery charges. The three were not asked to plead and were remanded in custody to October 5.
The three, who allegedly told police that they work in South Africa were arrested in Mvuma.
Prosecuting Mrs Helen Khosa said during the first week of September, the accused persons phoned one Gamuchirai Majaya and said they wanted to buy gold from him.
The complainant met them and one of them allegedly pulled out a pistol and shot him once on the left leg.
They allegedly robbed him of cash amounting to $500 before disappearing into a nearby bush, the court heard.
The prosecutor said on another date, the three went to Ramahori Farm in Concession and met their victims who had a vehicle.
“Upon arrival, one of the accused persons pulled out a fire arm and fired one shot at one of the complainants, injuring him on the right palm and at the same time demanding cash,” said Mrs Khosa. The other two searched the vehicle and took a bag containing cash amounting to $17 500, the court heard.
It is the State’s case that one of the accused persons then fired two shots at the other complainant and injured him on the arm.
