Bellevue ready to spring shocker

LOWLY placed Bulawayo Metropolitan Darts League side Bellevue has warned championship favourites Archers, whom they face this evening, that they can underrate them at their own peril.

Archers are three games away from winning the title without losing a game and having gone for 25 games without dropping a point.

Malcolm Motta, one of Bellevue’s outstanding players, said they were ready to face the championship favourites.

He said they were going into tonight’s game bubbling with confidence following their narrow 20-19 win over fourth-placed Parkview Lions last week.

Bellevue are second from the bottom with five points from 25 games.

“Playing Archers is a tricky game for us, but we’re ready for them. I think they’re more under pressure than us because they’ve everything to lose as they’re chasing the league title with a 100 percent record. If they come to us thinking they’ll have a walk in the park, then they are in for a big shock because we’re ready to spring a shocker,” said Motta.

Besides Motta, Bellevue will hope Hillary Mushayi, Nhlanhla Twala, Anthony Mhlanga and Josephine James, a member of the national women’s team, also come to the party.

Archers’ hopes will be pinned on the winners of the Highlanders’ organised Townshend and Butcher Doubles Tournament Albert Tawanda and Brian Ndlovu as well as Bornface Maningi and Wilfred Chikakatira. Archers captain Ernest Sibanda ruled out complacency for tonight’s clash.

“Our target has always been clear; we want to win the league title without a loss and as such our approach is the same whether playing a lowly placed team like Bellevue or defending champions Railstars. We just want to win and we’re ready to bury Bellevue in their own backyard,” said Sibanda.

Meanwhile, defending champions Railstars will be targeting Wise Waters’ scalp as they aim at keeping their slim title hopes alive.

Railstars are on 22 points, three behind Archers and the former can end the season on 26 points if they win their remaining four games. A defeat for Railstars and a victory for How Mine will give the latter an unassailable 26 points, to lift the title with two games to spare.
