ZRU holds trials in Byo
ZIMBABWE Rugby Union (ZRU) will hold a senior men’s national team trial when the Northern Select clashes with the Southern Select at Hartsfield Ground in Bulawayo tomorrow.
Harare players will dominate the Northern select with Bulawayo, Gweru, Masvingo and Zvishavane players making up the Southern select squad.
Craig Change, the Matabeleland Rugby Football Board (MRFB) secretary-general, said they are happy the national team trials were being held in Bulawayo, as it presents players from the southern region a chance to showcase their skills.
“Saturday is going to be an exciting rugby day for sports lovers as we host the national team trials where the country’s best players will face off in a North versus South game. Players from the southern region have been longing to play for the national team and as MRFB we’re grateful to ZRU for facilitating this national trials competition.
Hopefully the guys from this part of the country will rise up to the challenge and impress national team coaches,” said Change.
Seasoned gaffer Gilbert Nyamutsamba took the Southern Region Select side through their paces at Hartsfield Ground yesterday.
Change said the MRFB’s Under21 team will play varsity select in the main curtain raiser that starts at 2PM. — @ZililoR
