West Indies name squad for Zim tri-series

Chronicle (Zimbabwe) - - Sport -

WEST Indies have included uncapped batsmen Shai Hope and Rovman Powell in the 15-man squad that will take part in a OneDay International tri-series in Zimbabwe.

The series will kick-off on November 14 with Sri Lanka being the third team involved in the series apart from West Indies and host Zimbabwe.

Hope, who is yet to feature in the limited overs for West Indies has played six Tests so far and has scored 171 runs at an average of 15.54 but has been consistent in the recent tour games played in the United Arab Emirates with scores of 59 and 76. He also scored an unbeaten century while playing for West Indies Cricket Board XI against India in July.

On, the other hand, Powell had an impressive Caribbean Premier League season, while playing for the title winners Jamaica Tallawahs. Even though, he was included in the squad for the Twenty20 International series against Pakistan in UAE, he failed to feature in any of the game.

The pair will take the places of Kieron Pollard and Denesh Ramdin after they failed to make any impact in the recently concluded ODI series against Pakistan which West Indies lost 0-3. Pollard scored just 42 runs in the three matches at an average of 14 while Ramdin managed 79 runs in the series.

The rest of the squad remains unchanged with Jason Holder continuing to lead the squad which also contains Darren Bravo, Marlon Samuels, Evin Lewis, Johnson Charles and Kraigg Brathwaite.

Shannon Gabriel and Alzarri Joseph will form the fast bowling department along with Holder while Carlos Brathwaite and Jonathan Carter will take up the all-rounder duties. Sunil Narine will lead the spin department and will be assisted by Sulieman Benn and Ashley Nurse.
