Mzi­likazi re­ceives books

MAKOKOBA Mem­ber of Par­lia­ment Re­tired Colonel Tshinga Dube has urged par­ents to com­ple­ment Gov­ern­ment ef­forts through en­gag­ing in fundrais­ing ac­tiv­i­ties to sup­port schools in their com­mu­ni­ties.

Rtd Col Dube said when schools were be­ing run by whites, they held fairs on Sun­days, sell­ing cakes and scones and the pro­ceeds were used to sup­port schools.

He en­cour­aged par­ents whose chil­dren are at­tend­ing school now, to do the same. Rtd Col Dube, who is also the Min­is­ter of Wel­fare Ser­vices for War Vet­er­ans, War Col­lab­o­ra­tors, Ex-Po­lit­i­cal De­tainees and Restrictees, said this yes­ter­day dur­ing a cer­e­mony where he, in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the Ro­tary club, do­nated 2 000 books to Mzi­likazi Li­brary and Tech­nol­ogy Cen­tre.

Rtd Col Dube said the do­nated books would greatly ben­e­fit schools in Makokoba con­stituency in par­tic­u­lar and Bu­l­awayo pupils in gen­eral.

Bu­l­awayo Mayor Coun­cil­lor Martin Moyo, who re­ceived the books, ex­pressed grat­i­tude for the do­na­tion.

“There is no greater en­dow­ment that you would have given us apart from this. As a con­stituency, we are very grate­ful for the do­na­tion that the Min­is­ter and the Ro­tary club has given us. This shows that the Min­is­ter is car­ry­ing us on his shoul­ders even dur­ing his reign,” said Cllr Moyo — @cchikayi.
