Gumbo confident of win against Giants

Chronicle (Zimbabwe) - - Sport - Allen Khumalo Sports Reporter

CITY Knights basketball team coach Stanlake Gumbo has expressed confidence in the ability of his players ahead of their clash with Giants at Khanyisile Sports Centre today. Gumbo said morale was high in camp following their 81-33 victory over Ostriches in their cycle four clash last week.

“I think when you play basketball and any sport in general, you must have a little bit of cockiness in you. You must have a little swag or you may as well not show up. So we use that, not as a front, but because we know we can do it and we know the work we put in on the basketball court and also off the basketball court. So when you put in the work, that’s what you get – good results,” said Gumbo.

City Knights are seventh on the league table with four points, while the Giants top the log with eight points and are yet to lose in the league.

Knights have not won against Giants in their last two encounters so they’ll be out to break that jinx when they trot onto the basketball court this afternoon. But Gumbo knows that beating the table toppers will not be easy as Giants have won their last four matches.

“They are a very experienced team and will use that to their advantage. They are at the top of the table for a reason, so we are hoping to score more and defend more.

The boys have prepared very well and we don’t have any injuries. I am confident they will come out victorious,” Gumbo said. In the women’s category, Angels will faceoff with Lupane State University (LSU). Angels will be out to make up for last week’s 37-47 defeat to Nust. — @khumzallen.
