Use your time wisely
Ephesians 5 vs 15 – 17 “BE very careful, then, how you live — not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.
I have a young lawyer who works for the firm of attorneys that I use sometimes, he is a very hard working and focused individual. He has not been practicing for very long but it’s evident, based on the few times he has represented me, that he has great potential. The sky is the limit, should he embrace some of the basic rules of achieving success and more importantly, allow God to lead, direct and open his paths for him.
He came to visit me on Sunday, he never done so before but he did this past weekend. During the course of our discussion we focused on the elements of success. Humanity tends to define success as the accumulation of wealth and its subsequent effects. I would like to differ slightly with that assertion; success, in my view, is the sum total of what we use our time for.
Time is one of those elements we tend to disregard but is somehow very important in terms of how it shapes the people we are. So many opportunities are missed as a result of how we blatantly misuse this finite resource. It’s often easier to think of resources that are available to us as things that are tangible, yet time is also a resource. It is a diminishing resource that goes through our hands with the passing of each day.
Time is a gift that the Lord our God has given each one of us, it’s limited by virtue of the fact that each one of us has a date assigned to us that will signal the end of our lives and the time that we have been allocated. Some of the greatest individuals that history has recorded have been individuals who left an indelible mark on humanity.
We speak of great people like the individuals who have developed pioneering medicines, invented cars, created the computer and the smart phones, etc. These things have become a major part of our lives, all the great inventions of our time have had a positive effect on us.
One telling thing about these individuals is that they invested their time wisely; they used every opportunity that they were given to ensure that the time that was at their disposal was used to achieve great things.
One of the biggest weaknesses of most people is that they don’t use the time that has been allocated to them properly. Life invariably encompasses so many elements that calls for our time, but the greatest individuals are those that achieve the most with this resource that they have been given.
Take time to reflect on how you spend your days; do you waste hours instead of applying them to productive use? Are you guilty of being the sort of person who does not achieve very much from the start of your day till it comes to an end?
God has given us so many gifts, time is one of them and with each passing minute the period that has been lost can never be recovered.
Do you yearn to be great, do you want to achieve amazing things? You can be that person, it starts with how you apply your mind to the time that you have. It’s so much easier to come up with all manner of excuses as to why you cannot succeed, how you have been disadvantaged and how you have not been given opportunities.
The opportunity before you is the time that you have available, begin to use it wisely. Take time to be reflective, to think, pray, worship and to search for the Lord and His will for you. Use every minute that you have been given to make a difference, some of things you can achieve do not require money or resources, they just require effort.
One day you will be called to account for how you used your time, what will you say you did with it? Before that day, realign your life and begin to use every minute that you have been given for a purpose. You can do anything through Him who has called you. Use time properly. Achieve more. You can do it.
