Zifa right on relegation

EDITOR — The Premier Soccer League should just conform to the suggestion by the Zifa council which will see us having a 20 team league.

It could actually be good considering that FC Platinum, Ngezi, Tsholotsho, Harare City, Bulawayo City, Mutare City, Chicken Inn, How Mine, Border, Triangle, ZPC and even Chapungu are all recent beneficiaries of the regional promotion programme.

If anything, they should be advocating a 20 team league, four direct promotions, and two play-off positions between some teams finishing third, second and two of the relegated teams this year.

A direct demotion of four teams does not work because of the late notice.

Besides, the Zifa councillors may even have the power to get the league dissolved and form a new league.

Zifa is currently moving to make everything fair by requesting four direct promotions and these play offs which will determine the other two teams to join the league.

There is need for total commitment and participation by PSL clubs in this programme. It favours all current PSL teams including those to be relegated. It is most likely to improve competition. Significant Watemwa, via e-mail
