All set for Shangano Arts fest

ALL is set for the 10th edi­tion of the Shangano Arts and Cul­ture Fes­ti­val. The fes­ti­val tak­ing place in the coal min­ing town of Hwange, kicks off on Fri­day and ends on Sun­day.

Hwange Ur­ban Arts As­so­ci­a­tion chair­per­son Malvern Daka said the an­nual event be­ing held un­der the theme: ‘Shangano@10, cel­e­brat­ing cul­tural di­ver­sity’ is meant to cel­e­brate the prov­ince’s cul­tural di­ver­sity while pro­mot­ing up-and-com­ing artistes.

“This is a rain­bow prov­ince for arts and cul­ture. These an­nual fes­tiv­i­ties are mainly to cel­e­brate cul­tural di­ver­sity as well as en­sure that artists from Mata­bele­land North have an op­por­tu­nity to come to­gether and share their arts and cul­tural as­pi­ra­tions,” said Daka.

He said nu­mer­ous events have been lined up for the three days.

“On the open­ing day, we’ll have an Arts and Cul­ture Ind­aba at the No 1 Con­fer­ence cen­tre. This will run con­cur­rently with the HIV/Aids, Arts Main­stream­ing Gen­der con­fer­ence at the Hwange Re­source Cen­tre.

“The dances and var­i­ous per­for­mances will be on the sec­ond day at No 1 Old ground while the ta­lent search is at Utawashe Cen­tre in No 3 vil­lage on Sun­day as we seek to spread the fes­tiv­i­ties across the town.”

Hwange’s Vulindlela Theatre group, Moto Marasha Express Band, Shan­tani Band, Pezhuba Pachena Cul­tural En­sem­ble and Boom­slang Band are some of the artistes who will pro­vide en­ter­tain­ment at the fete.

Up-and-com­ing mu­sic sen­sa­tion, Shadreck Ka­tivhu, will launch his de­but al­bum on Satur­day with Kwe­sela Band from Vic­to­ria Falls and Ngoma Chir­imba from Binga also ex­pected to per­form — @to­by­man­dox.
