Gervinho ruled out of Afcon
COTE d’Ivoire captain Gervinho has had successful surgery on ruptured cruciate ligaments but faces up to six months on the sidelines and will miss the African Nations Cup finals, the country’s football federation said.
Gervinho was hurt during training with his Chinese club Hebei Fortune last month but only underwent surgery in Paris last week.
“The operation was successful but his recovery will be between four to six months which means he is out of the Nations Cup," an Ivorian Football federation statement said.

Joe Root had hung on for an hour and a half, but he fell leg-before to Mohammed Shami for 25, and Adil Rashid followed, edging an attempted upper cut to the keeper off the same bowler.
The innings quickly disintegrated after lunch. Zafar Ansari, who will be fortunate to make the cut in Mohali, was bowled by Ashwin for a duck, before the unsung Jayant — who has enjoyed a more-than-handy Test debut, won lbw shouts against Stuart Broad and James Anderson.
