Zvishavane builds $100 000 market

Chronicle (Zimbabwe) - - Business - Munyaradzi Doma Harare Bureau

THE Zvishavane Town Council has started construction work on its $100 000 flea market, which is set to house more than 300 market stalls.

In an interview yesterday, town secretary Mr Tinoda Mukutu said the flea market would be of service to many traders in the area.

Some traders are operating from an official site in the town, while others occupy undesignated sites dotted in different places.

“Our management team is interviewing builders to build a state-of-the-art flea market, which is approximately worth plus or minus $100 000,” said Mr Mukutu.

“The materials are now in place and the builders are now on cite because we are saying all the works should be completed before the rains start.”

Councillors and management agreed that the flea market should be operational by next month.

According to a council meeting report, flea market traders did not have properly built trading spaces.

During weekends, some flea market traders occupy a parking lot in the Central Business District.

Council has noted that there was a need to create a proper structure for the traders.

Meanwhile, council is expected to rehabilitate some of its recreational facilities that have not been functional.

Mr Mukutu said: “One of those facilities is our swimming pool, which has been neglected and was now an eyesore, but we are resuscitating it.”

He said the pool would be open to the public this month.
