Thieves steal & sell same car twice

al­legedly re­moved num­ber plates from a car that was dam­aged in an ac­ci­dent and fixed them onto one of the stolen Honda Fit ve­hi­cles.

They then sold the Honda Fit to Mr Tapi­wanashe Mu­pamhadzi for $2 500.

The duo al­legedly later stole the car from Mr Mu­pamhadzi, changed the reg­is­tra­tion plates and sold it to Mr Nyashadza­she Madamombe.

They later took the car from Mr Madamombe say­ing they wanted to sort out it’s doc­u­ments and gave him the other Honda Fit worth $3 600 which they had al­legedly stolen from Mr Mpilo Moyo in Shangani.

Eli­jah was ar­rested by po­lice at a sports bar in the city on Au­gust 11 while his ac­com­plice was ar­rested on Au­gust 18.

Eli­jah and Dex­ter pleaded not guilty to theft of mo­tor ve­hi­cles be­fore re­gional mag­is­trate Mr Joseph Mabeza who re­manded them in cus­tody to to­day for trial.

Pros­e­cut­ing, Mr Ti­nashe Dzipe said the duo com­mit­ted the crimes be­tween May and July this year.—@Mon­de­laC
