- Bongani Ndlovu Showbiz Correspondent

BLOOD Tongue, a musical play that explores the struggles of a strong-willed woman in present-day Zimbabwe, will premiere on Sunday at the Bulawayo Theatre

The musical is a collaboration between awardwinning Zimbabwean author Christopher Mlalazi and South African music directors Bafana Dladla and pianist Tshepo Pheko of the South African music group Generation2Generation.

Musa Sibanda plays the lead role and other members of the cast include Bulawayo actresses Noma Damasane, Ria Moyo and Bonakele Agnes Ncube.

In a statement, Bluez Cafe spokesperson Penny Yon said the collaboration was meant to empower their Women in Theatre and Television (WiTT) programme.

“The collaboration aims to empower and enhance the capacity of Nhimbe’s Women in Theatre and Television programme (WiTT) in particular and Zimbabwean theatre practitioners in general. This is being done through the provision of a multidisciplinary skills-set in commercial musical theatre production; thereby increasing opportunities for career-path development and internationallycompetitive commercial Zimbabwean musical theatre,” said Yon.
