Hre to host soccer star selection

- Harare Bureau

A SEASON in which players from the 18 teams found it difficult to perform consistently will come full circle on November 28 when the Soccer Star of the Year selection panel convenes in Harare to select the Best XI players of the season.

The league programme is now heading towards an exciting finale with surprise packages Ngezi Platinum Stars only separated by goal difference with their considerably experienced cousins FC Platinum at the top of the table.

The two platinum sides have 63 points apiece after 31 rounds of matches.

And with only three games left, they fancy their chances as they are two points ahead of giants Dynamos.

The 2015 winners Chicken Inn are also not far off on 59 points.

But the panel is likely to crack heads to come up with the final XI, let alone the overall Soccer Star of the Year.

For the second year running, the Castle Soccer Stars end-of-year awards will be decided by an electronic vote.

Barring any changes for this year, the panel of selectors shall consists of all the current PSL club captains, head coaches and 33 selected sports media journalists, with no proxy votes allowed.

The selection process will be overseen by the PSL and Delta Beverages, including their associated partners.

A selected panel of experts, which comprises sports media editors, representatives of the Footballers Union of Zimbabwe and football experts will be led by a convenor in observing the voting process.

The panel of selectors is encouraged to nominate deserving footballers with those in the panel who are eligible for selection also capable of voting for themselves.

In addition the panel is notably encouraged to consider players and coaches who respect the spirit of Fair Play and non-violence.

A player or coach must participate in, at least 10 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League official matches, to be eligible for selection.

Delta Beverages will reward the Soccer Star of the Year, the first runner-up, second runner-up and the other eight finalists.

There will also be prizes for Coach of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, Most Promising Under-20 Player of the Year, Referee of the Year, first runner-up and second runner-up.

Caps United’s Dominic Chungwa is favourite for the Golden Boot award after he went three goals clear of the chasing pack with 15 goals. The Referee of the Year category will be selected independently by the Zifa Referees

Committee.
