Tackling corruption needs political will

-

EDITOR — It is absolutely shocking that ZACC should be accused of corrupt practices.

How is it possible that the country’s anti-corruption body cannot account for $735 000? That is approaching a million. Who is meant to investigate this incident of missing funds which smells of corruption if the body that is constitutionally mandated to do so is corrupt itself?

Honestly speaking how are we to progress as a nation? Time after time we hear of corruption and read it in the newspapers, from Government officials, parastatals, the police, all sorts involved in corrupt activities yet nothing happens to them.

Our Government does not seem to be serious about this issue and it is disheartening. The Auditor-General Mildred Chiri has again put out a report that warrants the Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate persons and institutions or the Prosecutor-General to do so.

I implore these bodies to deploy the police to carry out full investigations. Zimbabwe cannot advance if we are in a situation where we have weak institutions. Everyone should take a leaf out of AG Mildred Chiri’s book and do their work with integrity and to the best of their ability.

Harvey Chitima, Harare.
