Buf­faloes player at­tacker gets 9 years

THE Mutare man who cut off 30-year-old Buf­faloes Foot­ball Club player, Kudzai Mwaramba’s palm with a ma­chete was sen­tenced to nine years im­pris­on­ment at the close of trial on Tues­day.

Hard­work Mushati (27), who at­tempted to flee the scene soon af­ter com­mit­ting the crime in Oc­to­ber, last year, ap­peared be­fore Mutare re­gional mag­is­trate, Mrs Loice Mukun­yadzi.

Mushati was fac­ing at­tempted mur­der charges.

In sen­tenc­ing Mushati, Mrs Mukun­yadzi con­sid­ered the ag­gra­vat­ing cir­cum­stances em­a­nat­ing from the lethal na­ture of the weapon used as well as the fact that life could have been eas­ily lost.

Mwaramba is lucky to be alive af­ter his ef­forts to make peace be­tween two feud­ing youths over car­wash space in Sakubva saw him be­ing hacked by a ma­chete that ripped off his palm.

The in­ci­dent hap­pened at Masara Garage opposite Sakubva Sta­dium.

Mushati ap­proached Mwaramba who was in the com­pany of his brother San­di­sai at around 4pm on the fate­ful day.

He de­manded to op­er­ate at the car­wash which is sit­u­ated at Masara Garage.

The car­wash was be­ing run by the two sib­lings. A mis­un­der­stand­ing arose. Mushati al­legedly at­tempted to crash a wa­ter gun.

He pro­duced a ma­chete and hacked Mwaramba’s left wrist.

Mushati tried to flee from the scene, but was nabbed by peo­ple who had watched the hor­ror at­tack.

Mwaramba was taken to Mutare Pro­vin­cial Hos­pi­tal where his hand was am­pu­tated.
