IT’S A WEIRD WORLD

MIRACULOUS RECOVERY THE hardy phone’s miraculous recovery proves there is something in the rice trick.

Phones are slippery little things, with a habit of falling into things like toilet bowls, or sinks — or even the murky depths of lakes.

The obvious solution to this is to not text in toilets, or while walking, or while near any large body of water.

But there is something satisfying about having a nice Insta session while sitting on the throne.

And there is a small chance any mishaps involving water may not prove to be fatal.

Giving us all reason to be hopeful during these dark days is Michael Guntrum, from Pennsylvania.

In March 2015 while ice fishing, Michael lost his iPhone 4.

“We were having negative25-degree weather, so me and two buddies went ice fishing,” Guntrum told BuzzFeed News.

Ok, so not exactly the same as tipsily browsing the web on the loo down your local.

Michael continues: “We were sitting in our portable shanty, and I got a bite on my rod. I laid the phone on my lap, and it slipped off.

“Instead of landing flat in the snow, it hit its edge and rolled into the hole. I caught the fish — it was a blue gill — but it wasn’t worth it.”

That should have been the end of that. However, in September 2015, Kyle Lake (where the fishing trip took place) was drained owing to structural issues.

And waiting to be reunited with Michael was his iPhone 4.

Mechanical engineer Daniel Kalgren was scouring the lake bed with a metal detector when he came across Michael’s phone “under 6 inches of mud and clay”.

Before reuniting Michael with it, Daniel cleaned the phone and “just out of curiosity” did the classic trick of putting it in rice to see if it would still work. Two days later, it switched on. The iPhone did have a little assistance, with Daniel pointing out Michael had it protected in an Ot- terBox iPhone 4 case.

But still, surviving for months at the bottom of a 30 degree lake is not to be sniffed at. — Mirror.

LIFE-LIKE DOG CAKES BAKER creates amazing life-like dog cakes in the shape of chihuahuas, Siberian huskies and even British bulldogs.

Using vanilla sponge and fondant icing, Emma Jayne Morris, 46, created the adorable designs.

A British baker has carefully crafted a series of incredible life- like, dog -shaped cakes.

Using vanilla sponge and fondant icing, Emma Jayne Morris, 46, of Aberdare, South Wales, created the adorable designs.

The most recent cake made by the mum-of-three features a pair of British bulldogs cuddled on a Christmas cushion.

Emma, who runs her own cake business, says: “I made the British bulldogs after I was asked to make a special dog cake for Cake International magazine.

The cake design is actually based on two real dogs named Bear and Duchess who belong to a family member.

“I used photographs of the pair from several angles to help me to get the detail right.

“It was quite difficult to sculpt the sponge because the shape is so complicated.

“But once I started decorating and adding detail, I really enjoyed myself.”

Emma, who first started baking six years ago, spent two days making the impressive cake.

She says: “I started by making the eyes out of fondant icing and then I made the faces.

“I used edible coloured dust to build up the colour around their heads before using an airbrush tool to paint the rest of the body.

“I’ve always had a passion for art, so getting the colour and the decoration right was really fun for me.”

In addition to the British bulldogs, Emma has also created six other life-like doggy cakes including a Siberian husky, a French bulldog, a Portuguese water dog, a Chihuahua, a King Charles cavalier and a Cavachon.

She says: “I was first asked to make a husky cake for a birthday in June 2014.

“I was really pleased with the result and it’s still one of my favourites.

“Lots of people comment on my cakes saying, how do you ever bring yourself to cut it’ and I can’t believe this is a cake!’.

“The comments make me really proud and I can’t wait to see what kind of cake I get to make next.” — Mirror.

SPA-MUSEMENT PARK BIZARRE Spa-Musement’ park where rides are filled with hotspring water to launch in Japan.

Where else but Japan would dream up something so strange, and yet so cool?

An unusual spa-themed rollercoaster, where thrill-seekers take a ride in mini jacuzzis, could become a reality thanks to this viral video.

Tourist chiefs in Beppu City, Japan, commissioned this bizarre promotional video pitching the region’s famous onsen’ hot springs as a reason to pay a visit.

The clip is set in a (currently fictional) “spa-musement” park, where visitors stroll around in nothing but white towels.

The semi-clad punters are seen going for a spin on a hot-tub carousel, as well as a high speed rollercoaster where the carriages are filled with soapy water.

One couple enjoying an ice cream together are left soaking in steaming hot water as the speeding coaster flies overhead, spilling the contents of the carriages on top of them.

The film was shot at an existing amusement park in Beppu City, which was converted into the spa-themed adventure park using 12 tonnes of locally sourced hot-spring water.

The mayor of Beppu, Yasuhiro Nagano, is also seen in the video, promising to make the spamusement park a reality if the YouTube video gets one million views.

And he may now have to make good on his promise, as to date the clip has almost doubled its target, with more than 1 800 000 hits so far.

After the video well exceeded the one million mark, the mayor's office put out a press release apparently pledging to keep to his word.

Nagano asked for input from a “large number of people” to draw up “concrete plans” and added: “A task force and professional teams will now look towards making the project a reality and we would like to go forward with your support”. Mirror.
