Buriram back on top with victory away at Prachuap

-

Buriram United struck twice in the first half last night to end PT Prachuap’s unbeaten run at home with a 2-1 defeat and wrest back the Thai League 1 top spot from Bangkok United.

Bangkok United’s 1-1 draw at home with Ratchaburi on Saturday night proved costly as they dropped to second spot after spending only a week at the top of the table.

Phansa Hemviboon gave Buriram the edge near the 30-minute mark and Diogo Luis Santo doubled the visitors’ lead, converting a penalty 10 minutes later.

Jonatan Reis pulled one back for Prachuap early in the second half, but the hosts were not able to summon the ferocity needed to tame the Thunder Castle.

However, the game did not end on a happy note for Buriram as their scorer Phansa was handed his second yellow card and sent off during the injury time.

Meanwhile, Port survived a spirited challenge by 10-man Bangkok Glass to win 3-2 at home and hang on to third spot.

Port’s Bodin Pala struck home with a low drive in the 26th minute and the home team’s job was made easier as the Glass Rabbits’ defender Chalermsak Aukkee picked up a red card in the 41st minute. Nurul Sriyankem then widened the gap in the first half injury time.

Anon Amornlertsak and David Velos netted one goal each on either side of a Sergio Suraez strike for Port in the second half but their efforts were not enough to help Bangkok Glass pull off an upset.

In other matches last night, SCG Muang Thong United beat Chiang Rai United 3-0 and Navy defeated Pattaya United 4-1.
