A for­mer Al­berta Con­ser­va­tive gov­ern­ment cut hos­pi­tal bed ca­pac­ity from 4.0 per thou­sand to 1.7. Al­berta wait times dou­bled in just two decades. Peer com­para­tor coun­tries have 3.4 beds.The U.S. Com­mon­wealth Fund places Canada 10th of 11 with the U.S. be­ing in last spot.Hav­ing the long­est wait times of sim­i­lar coun­tries earned us this dis­tinc­tion.
